About Us

Separated by Water, Connected by Land

Our world is rapidly changing and it’s hard to stay grounded and connected to our roots. Despite that, it’s important we don’t let go of our ancestor's heritage and culture.

Turtles leave the water and lay their eggs on shore, but their offspring will always race back to the ocean. Hence, although we as individuals may not live on the land that are ancestors are from, we must embrace their ways of living and carrying on their wisdom and knowledge.

Our Story

All our team members Whakapapa to Asia. We are Chinese, Fijian Indian, Cambodian and Vietnamese but grew up in Aotearoa all our life.

Connecting with our full identity to was hard. We felt disconnected from identity as asian and as kiwis.

. We wanted to create something that connected people like us with their full identity, and all their cultural backgrounds. For us it was with our first culture which lies in Asia, and our second culture of Aotearoa. Typically, you’d separate those 2 worlds, but we wanted to create something that infuses both together. Hence, we started Oogway Apothecary.

Tea is drunk casually by almost everyone, but in many cultures, traditionally it was drunk for its healing properties. We wanted to bring back traditions by pulling practices from Rongoa, Ayurveda and TCM and other cultures to create an infusion of these cultures that represent us as multicultured individuals in Aotearoa.
